DISCURSO

Solo lo he conocido unas pocas veces.

SPEECH

YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW

Yesterday, I had hot coffee at a café. It was cold. I wore accessories from Shinya, the first chief of the Hobbit village, who is 90 years old. It was a nice change of scenery. It’s good for the thyroid. Recently, I exchanged a hand-drawn T-shirt with Shimoda. I received a piece by Yasushi Abe, who created it while staying at the county museum for three months. I made a sketch. Wow, it’s magnificent! I received a work by Yasushi Abe, who lived nearby; I was excited to talk about the mutual newsletter and Fumikura. It was just that one time. Thank you. It’s been a long time since I saw a dragonfly. I ate a lot of silkworms. There were mulberry fields nearby. I remember the sound of the worms eating the mulberry leaves.

Yesterday, I went to the post office in front of the station and sent an EMS package to Finland and a letter packet to a student at Keio University. I ordered a hand-drawn T-shirt by Shimoda. The EMS fee was surprisingly high. It cost 50 euros. The station is within walking distance of the sports park swimming pool. Senior citizens pay 300 euros. The 50-meter pool is nice. It has a five-star rating, but I wonder why? It’s hot today, too. I received a call from an unknown number. When I answered, it was the artist Ryosaku Miyazaki. He is a 75-year-old man whose work has been selling well lately. He is a protégé of Aranka Pro. I’m going to write the manuscript again at my own expense and create a catalog. I’ve only met him a few times. He offered me some money for the manuscript. They treated me to a meal at the restaurant the other day. Yes, thank you. I will also be giving a lecture at the MIPAF International Art Festival in Macau this November, so I have taken on a curatorial role. I recommended *Wuhan Bread*, *Shanghai Women*, and *Aohai’s Boyfriend*, and everyone was happy with the choices. Macau is a great place.

Today and tomorrow, the temperature in Nagano City is 36 degrees Celsius. Yesterday it was 34 degrees. I’m visiting the public pool in Anshōri. I take the bus from Nagano Station, passing right by my old elementary and junior high schools. The bus fare is 120 yen for those over 70, and the public pool costs 300 yen for adults. I’m going in the afternoon. The elementary and junior high students are lively, though there are only about 10 people there in total. The outdoor pool is pleasant. It’s summer!

Tomorrow, June 27th, I’ll finally be able to have the packing removed from my nasal cavity. On June 23rd, I underwent a nasal endoscopy and a procedure to open the laryngeal mucosa. The swelling around my left eye has almost completely gone down, and the discomfort at the back of my head has largely vanished. I’m still receiving IV antibiotics and saline, but the volume has been significantly reduced. I’m glad the urinary catheter was removed yesterday. The next phase of therapy is simply eating three meals a day. I’ve been watching the World Cup; I don’t usually follow soccer, but I’ve been catching bits and pieces here and there—watching while having snacks at the bar where I usually drink. Of course, I’m not allowed to drink alcohol in the hospital. The man in my room—who is two years old—is undergoing high-pressure oxygen capsule therapy for the second time following a cerebral infarction. There are fewer inpatients now than there were last December; winter is truly dangerous for the brain. My strategy is to keep moving my feet. I will do it 30 times.
